Amy Lawch GG, ISA AM, is a graduate gemologist of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and an accredited appraiser actively involved in the International Society of Appraisers. Ms. Lawch is the owner of A. A. Benjamin, Ltd., a jewelry consulting and appraising business in Houston specializing in antique and estate jewelry. Ms. Lawch has been the subject of articles in Town & Country, Paper City, the Houston Chronicle, Houston Lifestyle, HTexas, and The Jewish Herald Voice. She frequently lectures on jewelry and has taught on the faculty of the Antique & Period Jewelry and Gemstone Conference. She spoke to the Phoebe Ann Traquair Society in Edinburgh about her research on this important Scottish Arts and Crafts jewelry designer and artist.
As an accredited appraiser with the International Society of Appraisers, Ms. Lawch actively pursues continuing education as part of her designation requalifying every 5 years to maintain her accreditation. Every two years she updates her USPAP qualifications. Lawch has presented to ISA members at their annual conference including webinars for Chubb and ISA on jewelry investing and collecting.
Knowledge of the regional, domestic and international markets is incredibly important in appraising jewelry. Although the internet has shrunk the world, there are idiosyncrasies in every market. Lawch maintains strong ties globally through her retail and auction connections Besides her own business, Ms. Lawch was the Regional Representative for Bonhams Auctioneers for almost 10 years. She previously represented Ivey-Selkirk Auctioneers and Phillips Auctioneers. Ms. Lawch was responsible for all business activity in the Southern U. S. assisting Phillips at their jewelry auctions in New York, London and Geneva.
With her BA from Northwestern University and MBA in finance from University of Houston, Ms. Lawch has combined her international financial background and passion for jewelry into a dynamic jewelry consulting business.
